Down in Longmont, Sean Murphy runs a general contracting firm that builds high-end custom homes, remodels and commercial projects across the Denver, Boulder and Fort Collins area, and it takes jobs up in the mountains, Estes Park included. He started as a framer and spent 14 years as president of Harrington Stanko Construction in Boulder before going out on his own. Framing, siding and interior trim are still done in-house.

Holding to the budget and a well-run crew are what stick with people after a project. Site supervision is hands-on, and estimating, budgeting and material selection are part of the job. The portfolio includes zero-energy homes, and the firm builds for architects as well as directly for owners.
