About
Out on Longs Peak Road, about seven miles from town, a music school has been running summer programs in log cabins for more than 80 years. Middle and high school students come for residential camps, college players for a summer intensive, and adults for a piano seminar. Nuestras Raíces: Música Mariachi, the mariachi camp, was named Westword's best summer camp for young mariachis in 2023.
It is a nonprofit, and financial aid goes to gifted and underprivileged students alike, so cost is worth asking about before ruling it out. Year-round there are youth, intermediate and advanced classes, private lessons and performances. Donations go toward scholarships and keeping the historic cabins standing.
