Inside the Safeway on East Wonderview Avenue, about a quarter mile from the Stanley Hotel, the bakery counter handles the cakes nobody wants to drive to the Front Range for: birthdays, graduations, baby showers and weddings. Custom orders go in online or through the Safeway app, which matters when the party is at a rental cabin and the date is not moving.

The decorated cakes follow the calendar. Lately that means football round cakes, field-shaped sheet cakes and touchdown message cookies, alongside heart-shaped cakes, fall cakes and Halloween cupcakes. Bread, donuts, muffins, bagels and cookies fill the regular cases. It is a quick in-and-out, with Starbucks a few steps away.
