About

Covered wagons instead of cabins. That is the detail that sets Girls' Trail's End apart from the other seven units at Cheley Colorado Camps, and it belongs to girls 12 to 17.

GTE sits out on Fox Creek Road, about six miles from downtown, and runs inside the larger Cheley program, owned and run by the same family since 1921. The days pull from the full camp list: hiking, horseback riding, backpacking, technical climbing, whitewater rafting, stand-up paddleboarding, mountain biking, archery, sports and crafts. Two traditional four-week terms make up the core of the summer, and more than 1,200 campers come through Cheley each year.

Former campers talk less about any one activity than about what a month out here did for them, the kind of summer that still comes up years later. Younger kids have their own Cheley units and a short taster session, and there is a family camp too.
