Out on Whispering Pines Drive, under a mile from Mary's Lake, JKLongART is an artist's studio next door to Blue Gate Garden & Studio. The work gets the attention first: talent and creativity, a sure hand with color, and nuance in the pieces that rewards a second look.

But the artist is half the story. Generosity, kindness and integrity come up as often as the art does, which says something about the visits people have had. The studio is about two and a half miles from downtown, far enough off the Elkhorn circuit that it won't be a casual drop-in, and hours aren't posted. Arrange a visit before driving out, and pair it with the garden studio next door.
