Colorado's oldest bookstore still sells only new books, from a building dating to around 1907 on East Elkhorn, steps from the Riverwalk and next to Caramel Corn. The shelves are broken into genre subsections, so finding the mysteries or the history takes a minute, not a search party.
The staff are the part people remember. Ask for a recommendation and you get a real one, and they will special order any book in print or take a pre-order for something not out yet. There is a kids' area with plenty to browse, plus newspapers, calendars, bookmarks and totes. Magazines are gone.
The old building has its limits: no public restroom, no ramp, and a small step inside. Each year the shop works with EVICS on a Books and Trolley day, when local kids ride the trolley over and pick out books to keep. Author events and in-store photography sessions round out the calendar.
