The smell reaches the sidewalk on East Elkhorn before you reach the door. Caramel Corn has stirred its namesake by hand in copper kettles for close to eight decades, in small batches, sweet and savory both, and sells it by the bag. It sits next to The Lazy Moose, a few steps from Macdonald Book Shop.
Taffy is the other big seller, and the brittle and cinnamon chews have their own following. The counter also scoops locally made ice cream, and on a cold day the hot chocolate is the move. Chocolates, fudge, caramel apples and rock candy round out the cases. It is a quick stop, easy to fold into a walk along Elkhorn, and the bags travel well.
