Vinyl records and guitars are not the usual stock for a downtown souvenir shop, which is part of why The Phat Bear stands apart on East Elkhorn. The main business is soft Comfort Colors and embroidered tees, crewnecks and hoodies, many in the shop's own designs, and the sheer number of choices is what people talk about.

Colorado-made wood crafts, mugs, patches, stickers, socks, jewelry and Bigfoot gifts fill the corners, and a kids' section carries toys and clothes. The store is steps from the Riverwalk, next to Outdoor World and Macdonald Book Shop, and it stays open into the evening, so there is time to dig through the record bins after dinner.
