About

Six thousand square feet is a lot of gift shop. The Trading Post of the Rockies fills it with Native American jewelry, rugs and blankets, Talavera pottery, hides and pelts, knives, western leather goods and a kids' section, and the metal yard art and dream catchers are what people tend to carry out. Helpful staff and owners who are easy to talk to get mentioned almost as often as the stock.

It sits out on Moraine Avenue, a little over half a mile from downtown on the road toward the Beaver Meadows entrance, right next door to Rivers Edge BBQ. The free lot holds more than 30 cars, which in July is reason enough to shop here instead of circling Elkhorn.
