About

Out on Big Thompson Avenue, under a mile from downtown, The Outpost is a ski-chalet-style lodge that used to go by Trailborn Rocky Mountains Outpost. The pool comes up more than anything else. It is heated and seasonal, and there is a campfire with s'mores at night.

Continental breakfast comes with the room, and a supply depot sells whatever you forgot before a day in the Park. Casa Colina does breakfast burritos and coffee in the morning and tacos and drinks on dinner nights. Guided fishing, hiking and snowshoeing outings run through local partners and fill fast, so book them early. A field guide on the website covers Park tips, including reserving entry ahead.

One practical note: the front desk keeps limited hours. Late arrivals check in at the sister property, Trailhead Lodge on Stanley Avenue, where keys and instructions wait. The recent renovation gets mentioned often, as does the check-in setup.
