About
If you're building, remodeling or fixing something in town and it needs a permit, the Town's Division of Building Safety is who inspects it. It's an office, not an attraction, and the rule to remember is the 4 p.m. cutoff the day before.
The Division of Building Safety does inspections on permitted work, checking it against building codes and the approved plans. That covers structural, life safety, accessibility, plumbing, mechanical, gas and energy work. The office is at 170 MacGregor Avenue, and the phone is 970-586-5331. You schedule inspections through the Town's online Community Connect system, and they must be scheduled by 4 p.m. the previous day. Electrical inspections are handled separately through the state, and the Town's inspections page lists that contact.
My advice for contractors and owners is simple. Register for the online system before you need it, not the afternoon you're ready to close up a wall. Missing the 4 p.m. cutoff costs you a day, and a day in a mountain building season is expensive. Be on site when the inspector comes, with your permit and approved plans handy. Visitors don't need to know any of this, and I've left hours blank because the page doesn't list them. Call before you drive over.
