About
The Riverwalk Parking Garage sits next to the Town Visitor Center and has 415 spaces. Parking there is free, and it's the best place I know to leave the car and hop a shuttle. Skip circling Elkhorn on a July Saturday.
The garage is next to the Estes Park Visitor Center at 500 Big Thompson Avenue, where Highways 34 and 36 meet. Visit Estes Park says it holds 415 spots, parking is free, and there are restrooms. All six town shuttles stop at the Visitor Center, including the downtown trolley. From the Visitor Center you can also pick up the Hiker Shuttle toward the Park & Ride and the Bear Lake shuttle. The Hiker Shuttle requires an advance reservation through Recreation.gov, and a park entrance pass is needed for the Park.
Park here early, before the day trippers arrive, and treat the garage as your basecamp for downtown, the Lake Estes trail and the riverwalk. The Visitor Center has indoor restrooms and staff who can sort out a plan. Don't count on it as overnight parking, and don't leave valuables on the seat. If you want a Bear Lake day without the lot fight, this is the smart start. Check the shuttle schedule first, since routes and seasons change.
