About

Five minutes is all the ride takes, lifting the car 2,630 feet up Prospect Mountain to a summit where the view runs across Rocky Mountain National Park, Longs Peak and the Continental Divide. The tram has run since 1955, and no park pass is needed. The base is on East Riverside Drive, a short walk from downtown, next to Scout & Timber.

Up top, the chipmunks get as much attention as the scenery, and the smooth ride comes up a lot too. The catch is the wait. Summer lines run long, so book a time online rather than walking up at midday. Trails lead off from the summit area for anyone who wants to stretch, and the Hungry Chipmunk Cafe is there for a snack. It's wheelchair accessible and closes for the winter.
