About

Covered wagons instead of cabins. That is the defining detail of Boys' Trail's End, the Cheley Colorado Camps unit for boys 12 to 17, out on Dunraven Glade Road in Glen Haven, about seven and a half miles from downtown Estes.

Cheley has been run by the same family since 1921 and has eight units in all, taking more than twelve hundred campers a summer. BTE campers draw on the whole program: hiking, backpacking, horseback riding, technical climbing, whitewater rafting, mountain biking, paddleboarding, archery, crafts and sports.

The main summer session is a four-week term, so this is a commitment, not a sampler. Younger kids have shorter options, including a five-day program, and there is a family camp for parents who want a taste of it themselves. Girls the same age have a parallel unit, Girls' Trail's End. It is a sleepaway camp first and last, so there is nothing here for drop-in visitors.
