Down Salvation Lane, nearly seven miles from downtown, High Peak Camp is The Salvation Army's Christian camp and conference center, and the stated aim is to use the outdoors to share the gospel. Summer brings adventure camp, day camp, family camp, a camp for children with special needs, and programs for middle and high schoolers. The rest of the year it rents as a retreat center. Groups leave talking about the mountain setting, the slow pace and the food, in buildings that run from rustic to new. The grounds are wheelchair accessible.
