About

Rainbow Curve is a roadside pullout on Trail Ridge Road, right where the forest gives way to tundra. You don't hike anywhere. You park, step out, and look straight down on Horseshoe Park and across to Deer Mountain. It's the easiest big view in the Park.

Rainbow Curve is a designated viewing area along Trail Ridge Road inside Rocky Mountain National Park. The Park Service puts it right at tree line, where subalpine forest turns to alpine tundra. From the pullout you can see Horseshoe Park, Deer Mountain, the Alluvial Fan, and the Mummy Range. There's a vault toilet. It's named because rainbows often show up here after rain.

My advice is to treat it as a stop, not a destination, and pair it with the rest of Trail Ridge Road. Trail Ridge closes in the cold months, from mid October to Memorial Day, and weather can change the road at any time, so check the NPS road status before you go. You also need a Park entry pass and, in summer, check whether timed entry applies. The altitude is real, so go slow, drink water, and don't be surprised if a short walk leaves you breathing hard. Stay behind the edge and keep your voice down.
