Estes Park Pump Track

About

Estes Park's pump track lives inside Stanley Park Bike Park, and it's free. Dirt loops, paved loops, and a skills area all in one spot. Kids on balance bikes and teenagers on skateboards share it, and nobody seems to mind.

The pump track sits inside Stanley Park Bike Park at 690 Big Thompson Avenue. There are roughly a third of a mile of interlocking loops in figure-eight patterns, some dirt and some paved, plus a half mile of skills loops and about a mile and a quarter of single track around them. The paved sections work for skateboards and roller skates as well as bikes. The Estes Park Cycling Coalition and the Estes Valley Recreation and Park District built it together, and the high school mountain bike team started the idea.

A pump track is about rhythm, not pedaling. Let the bumps move you. Wear a helmet, and start slow on the dirt loops. Don't skip the warm-up lap just because the kid next to you is flying. Go early or late in the day when it's quieter, and skip it right after rain or snow when the dirt is slick. The park is open sunrise to sunset year-round, but ice can shut down a winter visit. If you didn't bring bikes, the Estes Park Mountain Shop rents them with helmets.
