About

It's the only stable inside Rocky Mountain National Park, on Sprague Lake Road about three miles in from Beaver Meadows, run by Hi Country Stables under authorization from the Park Service. Rides start near 8,700 feet and the long ones climb past 12,000.

The two-hour ride is the easy one, for beginners and younger kids. The three-hour medium trail is the one that gets talked about most, with water crossings, sure-footed horses and a fair chance of a moose. Five-, six- and eight-hour rides go onto steep terrain and are not for beginners. Riders must be at least six and under 265 pounds.

Every booking includes Park Access+, covering timed entry to the Park and the Bear Lake corridor, so there's no separate reservation to chase. The wranglers know their horses. The season wraps up in early fall, so plan summer rides ahead. The stable opens early, good for a morning ride before the day heats up.
