Bob Fixter holds 11 gemology titles, and he and Carole have been in the trade since 1969. Their shop on East Elkhorn, next to Rocket Fizz and Thirty Below Leather, is packed with antique and estate jewelry, coins and currency, autographs, collectible watches, old toys and fine china.

Coins and gold pull in the collectors, and the shop buys as well as sells silver and gold. Wedding rings are the other big business. Carole designs personalized bands and strings pearl bracelets for bridesmaids herself, and silver eagle money clips for groomsmen are made on site.

Appraisals, sizing, cleaning and repairs all happen in the store. One bride woke on her wedding day to find her diamond had fallen out, and it was back in the setting in under an hour. The Fixters themselves are as much a reason to stop as anything in the cases. Classic gifts like silver serving sets and cufflinks are stocked too.
