About

Half a mile of the Big Thompson runs through Rockmount's fifteen acres, out on Highway 66 near the Beaver Meadows entrance. Twenty knotty-pine cottages and cabins share the grounds, most with stone fireplaces, all with full kitchens and an outdoor charcoal grill.

River views, a fire pit at night and elk on the property are what stay with people. The cabins are rustic but kept spotless, the beds are comfortable, and a few are roomier than expected. There is a game room for a rainy afternoon, and the mountain views do the rest.

These are housekeeping cabins, meaning no maid service: guests keep house. Pets are not allowed anywhere on the property, which is worth knowing in a town where half the cars have a dog in the back. Bring fishing gear and a picnic, since the river runs right through the grounds and the grills are already there. The game room covers the kids when it rains.
