About

No televisions, no cell service in the valley and only minimal Wi-Fi. That is the design at Dao House, a rustic lodge and retreat center six miles out Highway 7 from downtown. If you have to send something, Lily Lake is less than a mile down the road and has reception, and staff can help with special cases.

Rooms are simple, clean and comfortable, and the people running the place get mentioned more than anything else, along with how quiet and peaceful the setting is. The thin Wi-Fi comes up nearly as often, which is either the point or the catch, depending on who is talking.

Beyond overnight stays, the lodge hosts retreats, workshops, gatherings and festivals, and outside facilitators bring their own groups. Weddings, family reunions and corporate events go through a separate group-inquiry line. Anyone who has to stay reachable for work should plan the Lily Lake runs before booking.
