Community Forestry Sort Yard

About

Not a tourist stop, but a useful one if you own property up the hill. This is the Boulder County sort yard near Allenspark, where county residents drop off tree branches, logs and pine needles. It's about wildfire thinning, not trash.

The Community Forestry Sort Yard is a Boulder County program, and the Allenspark yard is at 8200 Highway 7, south of Estes Park. It takes tree branches, logs, pine needles, cut grass and pine cones. It's meant for Boulder County residents, and the county says they can drop material off free of charge. Seasons and hours change year to year, so check the county page before you load up a truck.

If you're a visitor, there's no reason to go. If you live in the Allenspark area and you've been cutting back trees around your house, this is where that material goes, and it keeps a lot of dry fuel out of the forest. Here's the part people miss. This is a Boulder County service, so if your place is on the Larimer County side of the line, it's not for you. Call or read the county page first. Sort the load the way they ask, and don't bring household trash, lumber scraps or anything treated. It closes for the winter season, so plan your spring and fall cleanup around the posted dates.
