Around Estes Park, tree work and wildfire preparation overlap more than they do in most places. Of the 10 listings, 4 are based in the valley and 6 come from the Front Range, Ward and Allenspark. Four carry a 24-hour flag and 5 offer free estimates, so there is real choice before you pay for a removal.
Get two quotes, ask for the arborist's certification, and ask who handles the stumps and chips. Fire mitigation is not a haircut. Make them tell you what they are clearing and what they plan to leave standing.
Based in Estes Park
Dead trees leaning toward the house are the classic call for Estes Valley Tree Care, based on Stanley Avenue near the fairgrounds. When a tree can't be dropped safely, the crew brings a crane, and the cleanup afterward is thorough, with brush and debris hauled off.
Fire mitigation and beetle-killed pine come up again and again with this arborist outfit, which works Estes Park, Glen Haven, Allenspark and Drake. Defensible space, hazardous vegetation removal and complex takedowns near houses are the heavy end of the work.
One phone number covers a lot of ground at Beyond Services Group: tree removal and trimming, stump grinding, planting, fire mitigation, landscaping, gutter cleanout, yard cleanup and firewood. Trained climbers handle the tree work, and the crew will work with insurers when a claim is involved.
Fire mitigation, tree work and xeriscaping all come from the same outfit at Property Pruners LLC, an arborist service working out of a unit on South St. Vrain Avenue, the Highway 7 stretch heading south from downtown.
Serves Estes Park from the Front Range
Brett and Angie Thomas run this Fort Collins tree company, and Brett is an ISA Certified Arborist. Pruning is the steady work, ash trees come up again and again, and locust trimming, dead aspen removal and winter pruning are all on the list.
Out of Loveland, TruGreen's local branch handles fertilizing, weed control, aeration and overseeding on care plans, an organic one among them, plus tree and shrub work and mosquito, flea and tick treatments. Aeration and fertilizer are the jobs people mention most, and technicians tend to explain what they're doing.
Seventy-plus years is a long time to be climbing trees, and Kincaid Tree Surgery has been doing it across Northern Colorado from its base in Laporte, just outside Fort Collins. Residential and commercial properties both, and the focus has always been tree health as much as cutting.
Grinding stumps below grade is the main job for Tree Stump Bros, a Boulder crew that also removes, trims and prunes trees and hauls off branches, leaves and wood chips. Going below ground level clears the tripping hazard and keeps regrowth and pests from coming back.
A tree leaning toward the roof, or a pine that looks wrong after a dry summer, is the kind of call Joel Serafin takes. He is an ISA Board Certified Master Arborist and Tree Climber Specialist, and his specialty is pruning by rope access climbing, with the health of the tree as the priority.
A cabin lot full of dead trees and brush is exactly the job TigerTree lists for mountain properties: dead and burnt tree removal, defensible space work and cabin cleanup. The company works out of Fort Collins and Laramie, covering the Front Range and much of Wyoming, and Estes Park is on its Colorado list, so expect a crew driving up rather than a neighbor.

For hazardous removals and pruning, start with the valley arborists. Estes Valley Tree Care serves Drake, Laporte, Ward and Allenspark and lists fire mitigation and lightning protection as separate services. Alpine Tree Service covers Estes Park, Glen Haven, Allenspark and Drake, with defensible space work and beetle management. Serafin Tree Service in Ward is run by an ISA Board Certified Master Arborist who prunes by rope access and treats mountain pine beetle and dwarf mistletoe.
Some listings are not tree companies. TruGreen is a lawn care company with a Loveland branch. AFPD Station Five in Allenspark is a fire department. It covers about 160 square miles as a volunteer district, so it is a useful contact when you plan fire mitigation.
Whoever you hire, ask for the arborist's certification, an itemized quote, and who hauls the debris. Fire mitigation is not a trim, so ask exactly what will be cleared and what stays. A clear written scope protects you if the neighbors or an insurer ask what was done.
Alpine Tree Service lists defensible space and removal of hazardous vegetation. Estes Valley Tree Care, Beyond Services Group and Property Pruners also list fire mitigation. Ask each what area they clear and how they handle the debris.
Alpine Tree Service offers beetle management with treatments, injections and monitoring. Serafin Tree Service in Ward covers mountain pine beetle and dwarf mistletoe. Fort Collins firms such as TigerTree list deep root fertilization and trunk injection. Ask before you remove a tree that might be treatable.
Four of the 10 listings carry a 24-hour flag. Diamond Tree Company in Fort Collins describes emergency work around the clock, and Estes Valley Tree Care lists emergency service. Call ahead to confirm they can reach your road, especially in winter.
Five listings carry a free estimate flag, including Estes Valley Tree Care, Alpine Tree Service, Beyond Services Group, Tree Stump Bros and TigerTree. Confirm that the estimate covers cleanup as well as cutting.
