When the Park lots fill up in summer, Mary's Lake is the low-key alternative, a little over two miles from downtown on Marys Lake Road. It is a power plant reservoir, which takes a little romance out of it, but the shore fishing is decent, the rocks along the edge make good picnic seats, and there is room to stretch the legs on a hike. It rarely feels crowded. Easy with kids, calm, with mountains behind the water.
