If you've never cast a fly rod, this is the shop to walk into. It sits on East Elkhorn next to Kirks Mountain Adventures and sells flies, gear and fly fishing classes alongside the guided trips. The shop keeps a fishing report, so it's a sensible first stop even for anglers who plan to fish on their own.
The guides are why people come back. Patient is the word that follows them around, with personable and informative close behind, and the four-hour trip is a common way in. Rainbow trout are the usual catch, with the occasional cutthroat, on water in and around Rocky Mountain National Park.
The shop also runs guided day hikes, Longs Peak hikes, llama pack trips, guided backpacking and snowshoe outings, and it rents gear and keeps a fishing report. Large groups can be arranged. For a summer trip, book the guide before you book dinner, since summer is the busy season.
