About
Almost five miles south of downtown on Highway 7, the old Baldpate Inn has been taking in guests for more than a century. It goes by Seven Keys Lodge now, and the stick-timber building still holds the sprawling key collection it is known for, plus a good load of historical artifacts. It sits right next to Outlaws and Legends Steakhouse.
The hummingbirds are what people bring up first. There is a porch swing for watching them, and the view from that porch is the other thing guests talk about. Breakfast is hot and included, the cornbread gets its own fans, and some evenings turn into impromptu music. Some bathrooms are shared, which suits the age of the building but is worth knowing before booking.
The Powell family took over at the end of 2020 and has run six seasons since. The lodge is closed for the 2026 season, so check the website or get on the mailing list before planning a stay around it.
