A trout pond with a small island in the middle sits on the lodge's four acres, and guests can fish it. The hot tub, a fire pit and fireplaces in some rooms cover the evenings, and sliding glass doors open the rooms onto the grounds, where elk sometimes wander through.

The rooms are informal and the beds are comfortable, which is about all most people ask. The lodge sits on Big Thompson Avenue near the Visitor Center, close enough to walk downtown for dinner, and the Lake Estes 9-Hole Golf Course is just down the road. Groups and small weddings book here too, and the lodge passes along seasonal discounts and offers from local partners.
