Old-school motel, and it does not pretend otherwise. Saddle & Surrey on South St. Vrain, a mile and a half from downtown, has king, queen and two-queen rooms, a Spruce Cabin, and full kitchens in several of the bigger rooms. Rooms are kept clean, there is a microwave, and the beds are comfortable even where the decor shows its age.

A heated pool (open in season), a hot tub and a picnic area with a grill cover the grounds. Breakfast is continental and free, and in the afternoon the lounge puts out tea, coffee and snacks for anyone with a book. Late arrivals should call ahead for after-hours check-in instructions.
