Up Windcliff Drive, three and a half miles out of downtown and a short drive from the Beaver Meadows entrance, sits a private neighborhood of about 160 properties, most of them second homes. Around 50 of those houses and condos rent short-term through Windcliff Vacation Homes, which keeps its office inside the community.

Homes can be sorted by hot tub, air conditioning, dog-friendly and closeness to town, and monthly stays are offered. What guests mention afterward is practical: clean houses, enough towels, a friendly office and snow cleared from the driveway. Deer come through often enough to be part of the stay, and a fireplace matters in the colder months.
