A mile and a half up Fall River Road, next to Nicky's Resort, the Wapiti has settled into its newer home, and the river view from the deck is now half the reason to go. Tables out there are the ones to wait for on a warm evening.

Prime rib is the order people remember, with the beef stroganoff and shepherd's pie next in line. The rest of the menu leans Colorado: elk burgers and an elk brat with peppers, trout, Rocky Mountain oysters for the curious and brisket nachos for the table. The beer list sticks to Colorado breweries, and the pub claims the largest all-Colorado selection in the state.

A piano player is part of the draw, and the bar shows the game. The kitchen also stays open later than most in the valley, which counts for something after a long day in the Park. Takeout is available for anyone too tired to sit down.
