About

When the wine list matters as much as the steak, this lodge-style chophouse on Big Thompson Avenue, about a mile and a half east of downtown toward Lake Estes, is worth the drive. Bison is what people order most, followed by the ribeye and elk chops, with trout for anyone skipping red meat. Asparagus is the side that keeps coming up, and carrot cake is the dessert.

The wine list runs from French Champagne to Mendoza Malbec and Willamette pinot noir, and there's a whiskey collection to match, best worked through from a bar seat. A fireplace warms the room, the mood is quiet, and dogs are allowed on the patio. It's dinner only, from late afternoon. Reservations are taken, and large parties should book ahead.
