Tostones are the order that keeps coming up, which is not what most people expect from a burger-and-cocktail spot on West Elkhorn. The burgers hold their own: the Tavern burger, a fig jalapeño version and the Hangover burger. The short rib grilled cheese, the salmon sandwich, fish tacos and elk medallions have fans too.

The bar takes cocktails seriously. An Oaxaca Old Fashioned, a Killer Bee, a Patio Crusher and a Mary of the Mountains sit on a list that also covers distinctive wines and craft beer. Service is quick, even on a full afternoon.

The patio is the real asset in summer, and dogs are allowed on it. Inside it is small, warm and casual, with live music some nights and the game on the screen. It sits next to Omnibus, a short walk from Bond Park, and there is a kids' menu for families. Takeout works too, and reservations are taken, which helps on summer weekends.
