Elk stew is the order, or an elk or buffalo burger to hold in two hands. The Mountain Man burger is the big one. The Trailhead is inside the Rocky Mountain Gateway building on Fall River Road, right at the Fall River entrance to the Park, and the view from the deck is the real draw.

It does breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a full bar, a kids' menu and dogs welcome on the patio. Magpies work the deck tables, so guard your plate. There's a fireplace for cold days, and winter brings shorter hours. Menus mark vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free dishes, and it takes reservations. Lavender lemonade does well on a warm afternoon.
