About

From spring into October, on clear nights, volunteers open the dome at the Estes Park Memorial Observatory on Manford Avenue and point the telescope at whatever is up. Admission is free, the volunteers know their astronomy and are glad to talk it through, and moon nights get mentioned as a highlight. It is educational without feeling like a class.

The dome holds about 14 people, so reservations are required and worth making early. It closes for the two nights before a full moon and the night itself, and weather can cancel a session on short notice. Nights cool off fast up here, so bring a layer. Scout troops and school groups can book their own visits.
