About

Up on West Wonderview, about half a mile from downtown, the original mountain home of F.O. and Flora Stanley is open for guided tours, with period furniture and original wallpaper still in place. The only way in is a tour, and tickets have to be bought online ahead of time.

The guides are the reason it works. They know the house and the family, and the tour turns into a lesson in how the town itself got started. The stories cover daily life in the early twentieth century, room by room. Kids handle it fine, and the house is wheelchair accessible.

Tour hours are short and walk-ups won't get in, so book before the trip, especially in summer. Military discounts are offered, there's a gift shop, and the museum hosts events and live performances through the year. It pairs naturally with a visit to the Stanley Hotel. A volunteer program and a restoration campaign, where supporters buy a baluster, keep the house going.
