Sleepy Hollow Park

About

Sleepy Hollow is a tiny Larimer County picnic stop on the Big Thompson, east of town on the road to Loveland. Come with a fishing rod or a sandwich. Don't come expecting to park easily, because the lot is small.

Sleepy Hollow Park sits along US 34 in the Big Thompson Canyon, about 8.3 miles east of Estes Park, at 2131 US-34. It's a small county day-use park with picnic tables, grills, vault restrooms, a bike rack, and an information kiosk. The river runs right beside it, and it's a popular spot for fly fishing. You'll need a Colorado fishing license. Parking is tiny, around eight to ten cars.

Dogs are fine on a leash of ten feet or less, and they can't be left alone. No campfires, no alcohol, no glass, no drones, and no fireworks. The county lists it as open spring through fall, closed in the colder months, so check before you drive out.

Honestly, it's a place to stop, not a destination. I'd go on a weekday, early, when the lot isn't full. It's a good pull-off if you're driving the canyon and want to get your boots near the water. Pack out everything you bring.
